Der mexikanische Bundesstaat Chihuahua hat eine Größe von 244.938 km2 und eine ungefähre Einwohnerzahl von 3 Millionen. Er liegt im Norden an der Grenze zu den Vereinigten Staaten (New Mexico & Texas) und grenzt im Westen an den Bundesstaat Sonora, im Südwesten an den Bundesstaat Sinaloa, im Süden an den Bundesstaat Durango und im Osten an den Bundesstaat Coahuila. Die großen braunen Gipsblätter kommen von der Westseite des Laguna Guzman. Man gräbt tiefe Löcher in den Sand und spült Wasser über die Wände, wo dann die Aggregate sichtbar werden. Man kann täglich einen Kipper voll sammeln. Die Größe variiert, nahe der Oberfläche sind sie zwischen 5 und 10 cm (2-4 in.), weiter unten 15 bis 20 cm (6-8 in.).
