Im Steinbruch ist eine großflächige Basaltdecke erschlossen. Unter dem Basalt stehen tertiäre Ton- und Sandsteinsschichten an. Der Basalt ist als Feldspatbasalt " Nephelinbasanit" zu bezeichnen.
