Detailed description

Ausgestorbene Klasse im Stamm der Stachelhäuter, die in zwei Hauptgruppen (Spiraculata und Fissiculata) eingeteilt werden.

Die Blastoideen oder Knospenstrahler werden in der Systematik mit ca. 80 Gattungen geführt.

In ihrem Erscheinungsbild sind sie am ehesten mit den Seelilien (Crinoidea) vergleichbar, da sie auch einen Kelch (Theka) besessen haben, der über einen langen Stiel am Meeresboden befestigt war.
