Die carnivoren (bzw. zum Teil vermutlich auch insectivoren) Compsognathidae sind aus der Zeitspanne Oberjura bis Unterkreide (ca. 157 - 100 Millionen Jahre) bekannt, Funde stammen aus Europa, China und Südamerika.
