Detailed description
Die Ordnung der Xenacanthiformes unterteilt sich in die Familien der Lebachacanthidae, Thrinacodontidae, Diplodoselachidae und der Xenacanthidae. Haie der Ordnung Xenacanthiformes waren Süßwasserhaie und sind vom Unterkarbon bis zur Mittleren Trias bekannt. Mit einer Länge bis 3 Meter war Orthacanthus wahrscheinlich der größte Vertreter. Charakteristisch für diese Ordnung ist ein Stachel hinter dem Kopf. Wahrscheinlich diente dieser zur Verteidigung. |
