Ewingite
Crude yellow crystals of ewingite coat the inside of a vug in massive uraninite from the Plavno mine. It is the most structurally complex mineral by the method of Krivovichev (2014) at 12230 bits/u.c., and contains the largest natural cage-cluster of atoms known at ~2.3 nm (see daughter photos). Collected by Jakub Plášill; Krivovichev, S.V. (2014) Which Inorganic Structures are the Most Complex? Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 53, 3, 654-661; Field of view: 1.3 mm; Plavno mine, Jáchymov District, Krušné Hory Mts, Karlovy Vary Region, Bohemia, Czech Republic

Ewingite on gypsum
Blocky yellow crystals of ewingite on gypsum, and the whole assemblage sits atop massive uraninite. Ewingite is the most structurally complex mineral known currently, due in part to its massive unit cell at over 60,000 cubic angstroms. Euhedral crystals are very rare, and slight dehydration has left them cracked. Collected by Jakub Plášil; Field of view: 1.8 mm; Plavno mine, Jáchymov District (St Joachimsthal), Krušné Hory Mts (Erzgebirge), Karlovy Vary Region, Bohemia (Böhmen; Boehmen), Czech Republic
