CNMNC Newsletter 52, October (2019) IMA 19-F: Redefinition of coquimbite; Proposal 19-F is accepted, and coquimbite is redefined as AlFe3(SO4)6(H2O)12·6H2O (Z = 2). Neotype material is the sample studied by Fang and Robinson (1970) from the Tierra Amarilla (the original type locality described by Rose, 1833) and kept in the U.S. National Museum, Washington DC, USA, catalogue number 12548. In order to be compared with coquimbite, the chemical formulae of paracoquimbite and aluminocoquimbite are also redefined as Fe4(SO4)6(H2O)12·6H2O (Z = 6) and Al2Fe2(SO4)6(H2O)12·6H2O (Z = 2), respectively. Coquimbite and paracoquimbite are characterised by homeotypic structures, so they constitute the ‘coquimbite group’. Aluminocoquimbite, characterised by a different topology, does not belong to the coquimbite group.
