Additional information / Summary

Ein hauptsächlich im Erdmantel vorkommendes Magnesium-Silikat wird auch Perowskit genannt.

Des Weiteren wird ein Hauptbestandteil des unteren Erdmantels (zwischen 660 und 2900 km Tiefe) als Perowskit bezeichnet. Es handelt sich hierbei um eisen- und magnesiumhaltiges Silikatgestein in der Zusammensetzung (Mg,Fe)SiO3.

Name from

Benannt von Gustav Rose im Jahre 1839 zu Ehren des Grafen Lew Alekseevich Perowski [Лев Алексе́евич Перо́вский] (1792-1856). Lew Alekseevich Perowski schlug 1845 die Gründung der Russischen Geographischen Gesellschaft vor. Perovski war auch ein einflussreicher Mineraliensammler.
Der Vorschlag für den Namen kam von August Alexander Kämmerer, der Gustav Rose das Material für die Beschreibung zugesandt hatte.
