Reiner Powellit fluoresziert beim Bestrahlen mit kurzwelligem UV-Licht gelblich-weiß mit einem Emissionsmaximum bei ca. 530 nm. Ersetzt W einen Teil des Mo, dann verschiebt sich dei Emissionsfarbe Richtung blau. Bei reinem Scheelit liegt das Emissionsmaximum bei 430nm.
