In Meteor-Impakten, wo er durch Schock-Metamorphose aus Quarz bei Temperaturen > 1200 Grad und Drücken 100 kbar gebildet wurde. Halbstabil, altert zu Glas oder Cristobalit bei > 300 Grad.
