Die Perovskit-Supergruppe wird nach Mitchell et al. (2017) in stöchiometrische und nicht stöchiometrische Perovskit-Gruppen unterteilt. Beide Gruppen werden weiter in einzelne ABX3- oder Doppel-A2BBX6-Perowskite unterteilt.

Viele Mineralien dieser Gruppe sind wichtige Ferroelektrika.
