Detailed Description

(auch SWA Lithium Mines (Pty. Ltd.) - Rubicon Section

Ehemalige, Mitte der 90er Jahre aufgelassene Lithium-Grube, welche bis zur Stillegung von Degussa betrieben wurde.

Lage und Situation

Ca. 45km S von Karibib. Die Grubenanlagen sind abgerissen, die noch 2001 recht großen Haufen Petalit und rosa Beryll abgeräumt, verblieben sind am SE-Rand Reste der Halden und Bruchwege mit tw. großen Gesteinsblöcken, in welchen mit viel Mühe und Geduld Mikroklin, Lepidolith (Trilithionit), Beryll, Quarz und, mit Glück, Triphylin und Lithiophilit gefunden werden können.

Geologie

Präkambrische Metamorphite (Marmore, Granatglimmer, Quarzite, Amphibolite, Diopsid- und Wollastonit-, Cordierit-, Andalusit und Staurolithgesteine unter einer dünnen Sanddecke), welche durch Granite mit tw. mächtigen Pegmatiten (magmatische Be-Li-Cs-Nb-P-Ta-Restschmelzen) intrudiert wurden.

Sammler-Info

Die alte Rubikon ist nur noch einen Abstecher für Lagerstätten-Interessierte wert; nachdem auch noch die letzten Haufwerke an Li-Erz abgeräumt wurden, sind Fundmöglichkeiten im Gelände der ehemaligen Grube limitiert und mehr oder weniger auf die Silikate beschränkt.

Bevor man zum eigentlichen Eingang der Grube kommt, ca. 1-2 km auf der rechten Seite, ca. 50-150 m im mit Büschen bewachsenen Gelände, trifft man auf zahlreiche Pingen bis etwa 3 m Tiefe. Hier konnten wir im Jahr 2001 noch wirklich gute Funde von langstengligem grünem Beryll, Schörl und -garnicht so selten- dunkelblauen Indigolithen machen. Die Indigolithe sind tw. reich in hellem Pegmatit, oft wirrstrahlig, eingewachsen und erreichen Längen bis mehrere cm.
