Detailed description

Kakortokit

Varietät eines agpaitischen Nephelin Syenits mit wolkiger Textur und einer magmatischen Schichtung mit wiederholt auftretenden Zwischenschichten von Alkalifeldspat, Eudialyt und Arfvedsonit. Die Farbe variiert je nach Arfvedsonit- oder Nephelinbestandteilen; i.d.R. Grundfarbe weiß mit schwarz-roten Schichten.

Typlokalität Kakortok (neue Schreibweise Qaqortoq), Illimaussaq, Grönland. Das Gestein tritt häufig am südlichen Ende des Illimaussaq-Intrusiv-Komplexes in einer Höhe von ca. 700 m auf. Kakortokit wird als Cabochon zu Schmucksteinen verarbeitet. Ein ähnliches Gestein kam als "Lopar's Blood" von Alaska auf den Markt.
