Der Hauptort der Gemeinde Finspång gewann 1580 an Bedeutung, als König Johann III. den Holländer Wellam de Wijk beauftragte, im Ort Kanonen und dazugehörige Kugeln für das schwedische Militär zu produzieren. Bis heute Zentrum der schwedischen Schwerindustrie.
